Prom’s on the horizon and millions of teenagers are searching on social media for the latest fashion tips and hairstyle trends to determine what to wear. We turned to two of our advisory board members, celebrity stylist Cary Robinson, and celebrity hairstylist Shana DeAndrea, to share some valuable outfit inspo and hairstyle tips so that you can dress confidently, together and have a memorable prom!
From JT to JLo!
Celebrity Stylist Cary Robinson is the woman behind the personal style and fashion sense for female Oscar winners and several well-known Victoria’s Secret Angels, including Josephine Skriver, Lais Ribeiro, and her daughter, Jasmine Tookes. When buying a prom dress, Robinson offers the following piece of outfit advice - “You don’t want to look like you’re in a wedding. There is a fine line with prom dresses. Imagine attending a red-carpet event and choose a prom dress that is red carpet-worthy, ” she advises. Once you’ve found your prom dress, Robinson stresses “don’t over-accessorize and keep it simple. You don’t want to take away from you or from your prom dress.”
One thing that most likely gives young men the jitters – men’s prom fashion. Cary’s dressed grammy-winning male artists to NBA Champions, including Shaquille O’Neal so she knows a thing or two about men’s outfits for prom. Men have several style options for prom including a tuxedo, suit, or a blazer, and the outfit choices usually build up more stress than necessary. “Keep it classic and keep it tasteful for prom,” recommends Robinson. “If you don’t want a classic tuxedo style, you can wear a nice, clean suit paired with sneakers. It’s a super cool look for guys. If you prefer a suit make sure the suit jacket is tailored to fit you! Making sure your clothing fits well will set you apart as one of the sharper-dressed young men at the prom.”
When celebrities request house calls...
Shana DeAndrea is a celebrity hairstylist who has worked with the likes of Chrissy Teigen, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Rita Ora. To start, DeAndrea offers this hairstyle tip for a killer prom ‘do that will complement any prom dress! “Rock some type of braided hairstyle and don’t be afraid to think outside of the box,” she suggests. “If there’s one thing short, long, curly, and straight hair all have in common, it’s that they all look crazy-good with a braid, no matter what style prom dress you choose.” Get inspired by one of the following looks that are guaranteed to steal the show.
Four Braided Prom Hairstyle Trends
The Half-Up, Half-Down ‘Do with a Tiny Braid

Loose Boho Braid with Texture
For guys, “If you have a short high cut try and grow it out and add some product to make it a little more stylish. If you are usually on the messy side, clean yourself up especially around the neck and ears.” DeAndrea offers a piece of advice for young men who want to try a different hairstyle for prom. “Don’t!” she advises. “If you insist, do it at least a month before in case you hate your new cut or style then it has time to grow out.”
